Queen’s Student Centre

Job: Queen’s Student Centre

Contractor: Felix O’Hare & Co. Ltd

Contract Value: £750,000

Felix O’Hare & Co. Ltd appointed Raptic for the Concrete and Formwork package in the redevelopment of the Queen’s University Belfast Student’s Union. This ambitious and exciting project provides a significant opportunity to replace existing facilities and create a holistic, cutting edge facility.

The site itself is in Belfast City Centre opposite Queens University, off University Road, it’s a large site and construction is currently on going during the Covid-19 pandemic. Covid-19 has changed the world and it has also created a few new difficulties with on site working but we have been able to safely work around them to deliver exceptional work. A large majority of the concrete had to be well finished as it will be on show, so for this site we had to use all new Acrow formwork panels in the four Large Lift Cores. All four lift cores were jumped at the same time to keep within the program so there was an extremely large quantity of formwork panels onsite at one time. Although some sections of the building are steel framed the centre has insitu concrete slabs, for this we are using the Acrow ALU Deck System.
